If you know V1.5, you will find yourself familiar with this new version 1.6, however there are some changes and new features. First comes an overview, followed by screenshots of some visible changes.
| The Info screen shows the current connection status and has buttons to access the remotes list.
With 1.6 you will no longer need to go to the Info screen to access the Settings page, so probably you will see this info screen only once when starting up. |
The list to access your remotes. Here several changes were made:
If you tap the title of the remotes list, you can toggle the display of the tabs at the bottom. If you never want to access iRed2 remotes or online remotes, simply tap the title and you'll get a clean list. If iRed is configured, these remotes are listed under separate entries, though:
You can now individually switch modules on/off, e.g. if you have one module out-of-order and don't want to be bothered by offline messages:
You can share and backup your remotes via Dropbox (free account is good for 2 GB of remotes), and you can also upload images to your Dropbox from anywhere and later use these to create a new remote.
Now you can configure the sound and the volume of the remote button click feedback:
Some more seetings are available, including a wish of several users: Editing can be disabled for remotes and remote lists:
You inform you about the connected modules and/or iRed2, a new notification concept was implemented. After startup or wake-up, a overlay shows you the status of the network, modules and iRed2. The window will disappear after a few seconds, or stays if problems arise. You can always tap "Close" to hide the overlay window:
In iRedTouch 1.5 you could swipe through your remotes list using two fingers, however this often leads to unintentional button presses. With iRedTouch 1.6 you can use the title bar of the remote to swipe left/right or you can tap to quickly jump back to the remotes list:
If you tap the remotes list button on the top left, the navigation goes more slowly with a nice slide-out animation. |
Although the buttons on the remotes are only sensitive areas and not visible when beeing used, I always wanted to add rounded buttons. They simply make for a cleaner design ;-)
Please note that the technique to select buttons has changed slighlty:
From the "Add Action" pane you get two more actions, which were on heavy request by users with more sophisticated home automation wishes:
Several kinds of modules (IRTrans LAN Controller, iTach WF2CC, iTach IP2CC, GC-100-12) support contact closures. These can now been siwchted on/off from this action:
Some more high-level devices use RS232 for beeing controlled. With iRedTouch 1.6 you can send serial strings to these devices. Please note that only certain modules do support this, e.g. IRTrans with serial adapter, IRTrans LAN Controller XL, iTach WF2SR, iTach IP2SR, GC-100.
Creation of new remotes is now much easier than in iRedTouch 1.5. On every online remote, i.e. those on a server, in your Dropbox or even iRed2 remotes, you can access a popup menu with several functions:

There are several more changes throughout the whole app. I hope you'll like it!
